NTIC Foundation slaughters 80 cows for indigent Nigerians

As Nigerians joined the rest of the world to celebrate this year’s Eld-ul-Adha, on Monday, the Nigerian Turkish International Colleges (NTIC) Foundation slaughtered no fewer than 80 cows and distributed same in size-able kilograms to indigent Nigerians to enable them celebrate the Eid-el-Kabir.

The event which took place at the Nigeria Turkish International Colleges, Isheri, Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Ogun State were shared to over 2,000 families as part of the schools’ efforts to reach out to the less privilege in the society during the festive period.

Principal of the College in Ogun, Ercan Yilmaz said the annual meat distribution was part of its social responsibilities. His words: “For more than ten years, we have been involved in this event on a yearly basis reaching out to 2,000 Nigerian families of all faiths on Sallah celebration like this.”

Yilmaz stated further that the motivation for this was simply to ensure that every family, irrespective of colour, religion was made happy at Sallah.

Yilmaz regretted that the crisis in home country of Turkey had negatively affected the Turkey nationals’ investments exchange programme in Nigeria as he said the parent company of the school, Surat Group, had put on hold some of its international activities, including its monthly exchange programme, where business organisations in Nigeria are sent to Turkey while their Turkish counterparts are brought to Nigeria to identify key areas of investment.

He noted that Turkey needed more international investments, which the inherent crisis was setting back. “Before this year, 90 percent of donations we used to get was coming from Turkey while only 10 percent came from Nigeria. Now, due to the challenges we have with our government in Turkey, the donations from Turkey have dropped,” he said.

Mr. Yilmaz said the school was against extremism of any kind and hoped that education would bring the populace to the realisation of the dangers of violence.
